One amazing aspect I noticed while in Peru was the feeling of safety everywhere I went. I never felt like I was in danger or that someone was going to harm me. Considering that I stuck out from the crowd everywhere that I went as an African American woman who is obviously not from Peru, I'd say that was pretty awesome to experience and see. I was treated with kindness by everyone I interacted with. In fact, I went to a restaurant and spoke to one of the advertisers before deciding to go in and I ran into him the next day and he came up to me to say hello and ask how I was. I wasn't feeling too well the next day and I told him that and he recommended different remedies for the symptoms that I was showing like I'd expect an old friend or family member to do in the US. I wouldn't expect to see this kind of care from a stranger in the US and I definitely wouldn't have this sense of safety in the US. This was something that stuck out to me with every outing and every interaction I had in Peru and was probably one of my favorite aspects of the country.
