The typical Peruvian hotel breakfast

Peru has wonderful food and a lot of restaurants. In cities like Lima and Cusco you will find plenty of locations to satisfy your palette. But here’s what I wanted to address today though, the hotel breakfast.



 If you are planning on travelling to Peru soon and choose to stay at a hotel here’s what you should expect for breakfast.  Travelling throughout beautiful Peru me and my classmates stayed at a number of hotels. The hotels all had their own charm, personalities and pros and cons, but something that was consistent in all of them was the breakfast. In every hotel we were greeted with the same self-serve items without fail. It was funny to me because it was as if they were following a template or received orders that this is what they are obliged to serve their guests.


I didn’t mind this at the start of the trip as I like many of these items, but it eventually got a little repetitive. So, what were these items? We were always served: eggs (fried, scrambled), pan francés, slices of ham and cheese, butter, some form of cereal and a banana. Drinks wise we were provided coffee or coffee concentrate, milk, hot water, tea bags, and pineapple or orange juice.


I liked most of the items provided at breakfast and tried to eat a lot to fill up so not to starve before lunch time, but it always felt a little light for my appetite. If I eat a good breakfast, I usually have no problem waiting until a reasonable time for lunch, but during my trip I often felt like I could eat something more less than an hour after breakfast. I don't know if this a result of the Cusco elevation accelerating my metabolism or a result of the food itself.
